College and Career Readiness Programs

Adult High School graduation group photo of alumni on steps College and Career Readiness (CCR) classes are offered in Rutherford and Polk County during the day and evening. Our classes and materials are provided for free. New students can get started any time. We look forward to helping you achieve your educational goals!

Adult Basic Education Program

The Adult Basic Education (ABE) program is designed to help students learn how to read, or read better. ABE classes also prepare students with math and writing skills. Class sizes are small with friendly and supportive instructors.

English as a Second Language Program

The ESL program provides free classes for students who wish to learn English. You can improve your speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills in English! Our free classes are open to learners at all levels (beginner to advanced).

High School Equivalency (HiSET/GED) Program

The High School Equivalency program at ICC is designed to prepare students to pass the HiSET ® or GED ® test. To earn a high school credential through this program, a student must pass a standardized test. Students prepare for the test by attending classes on campus, in the community, or online. The resulting High School Equivalency Diploma is issued by the State of North Carolina.

Adult High School Diploma Program

The Adult High School program allows students to earn a high school diploma issued jointly by Rutherford and Polk County Public Schools and Isothermal Community College. Students earn 22 credits through our free classes and may transfer any earned high school credits toward completion.

Students enrolling in the Adult High School program will need to provide an official l transcript from the last school attended in a sealed envelope.

Distance Learning

We offer flexible attendance options. All College and Career Readiness programs are available in distance learning formats.
