Spindale, NC (May 7, 2026) - Two students from Isothermal Community College recently represented the college at the North Carolina SkillsUSA competition held at Guilford Technical Community College in Greensboro, marking the first time Isothermal students have competed in the statewide event.

Students Quincie Mosely and Mitchell McCraw competed against some of the top community college and technical education students from across North Carolina. Mosely placed 16th in the state, while McCraw earned an impressive sixth-place finish out of 25 competitors.

SkillsUSA is a national workforce development organization that helps students develop technical, workplace, and leadership skills through hands-on competitions and professional development opportunities. The annual state competition brings together students from career and technical education programs across North Carolina to demonstrate their knowledge and abilities in real-world industry settings.

Isothermal instructors Hunter Nelson, Austin Price, Joy Thompson, and adjunct instructor Haley Lail worked closely with the students to prepare them for competition.

“This was an important milestone for our program and our students,” said Mike Gavin, ICC's senior director of Marketing and Communications. “Competing at the state level for the first time and earning these results speaks to the dedication of our students and instructors alike.”

College leaders said the experience provided valuable opportunities for professional growth, technical skill development, and networking with industry professionals and peers from across the state.

Isothermal plans to continue participating in SkillsUSA competitions in the future as the college expands opportunities for students to showcase their talents and career readiness.
