Short Fiction Contest

General Guidelines for All Writing Categories

  • The Poetry, Essay, and Short Fiction categories are open to both students and employees of the college.
  • By submitting work, authors affirm that all writing is completely original (including no AI-generated work), has not been previously published, and is not under consideration elsewhere at the time of submission.
  • The editorial staff reserves the right not to run any writing category if an insufficient number of submissions is received in a particular category.
  • Additionally, the editors reserve the right to decline or disqualify submissions that contain inappropriate, offensive, or discriminatory content or language, or that otherwise fail to meet the standards and mission of the magazine.
  • All submissions are subject to editorial review and selection. Minor edits may be made for clarity, grammar, or formatting while preserving the author’s voice and intention.

Short Fiction Submission Guidelines

  • Contributors may submit up to two (2) works of short fiction, each no longer than 1,200 words. Submissions may represent any genre or style, including, but not limited to, literary fiction, speculative fiction—science fiction, fantasy, dystopian/utopian—horror, mystery/crime, historical fiction, and humor/satire.
  • The work should demonstrate narrative coherence, character development, and effective use of language.
  • Submissions must be uploaded in Microsoft Word (doc or .docx) or Google Docs format.
  • Each piece should be clearly titled and formatted in a standard font.
