Executive Council Application

About Student Government Association: SGA

All students who pay the student activity fee are members of the Student Government Association (SGA). Students selected to serve on the SGA Executive Council assume an active and visible leadership role in shaping the student experience at Isothermal Community College (ICC).

Executive Council members serve as representatives of the student body, collaborate with campus administration, support student organizations and events, and advocate for student needs. Serving on the Executive Council is both an opportunity and a responsibility.

Eligibility Requirements

To serve on the SGA Executive Council, students must:

  • Be enrolled in at least six credit hours during their term of service.
  • Maintain the GPA requirement specific to the position sought.
  • Be in good academic and student conduct standing with the college.
  • Be enrolled at ICC for the duration of the term of office.

 

Executive Council Role Responsibilities

SGA President

  • To represent the Student Government Association and Isothermal Community College at all public functions and serve as a role model.
  • To attend Isothermal Community College quarterly Trustees meetings and serve as an ex officio member of the Board of Trustees, and provide a report from the Student Government Association.
  • To call and preside over regular or impromptu meetings of the Student Senate and the Executive Council in a non-voting capacity (with the sole exception of casting a vote to break a tie).
  • To appoint the members of all committees of the Student Senate and serve as an ex officio member of all such committees.
  • To notify the student body within ten days when a vacancy occurs within the Executive Council and to appoint, with the consent of two-thirds of the SGA Executive Council, all persons to fill the unexpired terms in accordance with the SGA Constitution.
  • To appoint, when requested and needed, a Judiciary committee with the approval of two-thirds of the Student Senate.
  • To be enrolled at ICC for a period not less than their term of office, to be enrolled for six credit hours or more, and to maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 and be in good standing with the college.

SGA Vice President

  • To assume the responsibilities of the President should the President, for any reason, be unable to meet the duties of the office.
  • To assist the President in the administration of their duties, as needed.
  • To fulfill any duties as delegated by the ICC SGA Executive Council.
  • To serve as a voting member of the ICC SGA Executive Council and Student Senate.
  • To communicate with clubs and club advisors about activities as approved by the ICC SGA Executive Council and Senate.
  • To serve as liaison to all clubs and organizations and communicate with student leaders regarding activities, events, and procedures.
  • To be enrolled at ICC for a period not less than their term of office, to be enrolled for six credit hours or more, and to maintain a minimum 3.0 and be in good standing with the College.

SGA Secretary

  • To serve both as recording and corresponding secretary of the Student Senate and Executive Council with a voting right in the Student Senate.
  • To keep and make available to the Student Senate a permanent record of the Student Government Association Constitution and the Student Manual of the Student Government Association.
  • To maintain the correspondence of the ICC SGA.
  • To perform such duties as the president of the SGA may assign to you, subject to Senate approval.
  • To serve as a voting member of the ICC SGA Executive Council and Student Senate.
  • To be enrolled at ICC for a period not less than their term of office, to be enrolled for six credit hours or more, and to maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA and be in good standing with the College.

SGA Treasurer

  • To work with the Student Activities Coordinator to prepare a budget of projected revenues and expenditures for each fiscal year (July 1 – June 30) and present the budget to the Executive Council for approval.
  • To meet monthly with the Student Activities Coordinator to create a treasurer’s report to be presented to the SGA Executive Council and the Student Senate of budget-related expenses.
  • To serve as a voting member of the ICC SGA Executive Council and Student Senate.
  • To assist in all other areas related to financial matters as deemed necessary by the Executive Council and the Student Activities Coordinator.
  • To be enrolled at ICC for a period not less than their term of office, to be enrolled for six credit hours or more, and to maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA and be in good standing with the College.

SGA Parlimentarian

  • To know and maintain the parliamentary order (Robert’s Rules of Order) of all business meetings of the Student Senate.
  • To act as an advisor to the Executive Council in the interpretation of the SGA Constitution, school policies, and the Student Club/Organization Leadership Manual.
  • To oversee all elections of executive council members and other special elections.
  • To establish proper parliamentary procedures in all business meetings of the Student Senate and Executive Council and to assist in all areas related to parliamentary procedures.
  • To serve as an advisor to help educate student organizations about parliamentary procedure and the use of Roberts Rules of Order.
  • To serve as a voting member of the ICC SGA Executive Council and Student Senate.
  • To be enrolled at ICC for a period not less than their term of office, to be enrolled for six credit hours or more, and to maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA and be in good standing with the College.

SGA Public Information Officer

  • To work with the SGA Advisor, ICC print shop, and the ICC’s marketing team in planning/creating marketing and publicity for the Student Government Association activities that reflect the student voice.
  • To coordinate maintenance of bulletin boards across campus and make sure all are up to date. Track and maintain promotional materials for clubs or organizations on all forms of media and in approved display locations across campus and digitally.
  • Keep a notebook/scrapbook of events in the student activities office up to date.
  • To coordinate social media coverage of events when appropriate and work with ICC’s marketing team to take photos and create posts about events before and after.
  • To serve as a voting member of the ICC SGA Executive Council and Student Senate.
  • To be enrolled at ICC for a period not less than their term of office, to be enrolled for six credit hours or more, and to maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA and be in good standing with the College.
