Spindale, NC (May 28, 2026) - Eight students are ready to hit the road after graduating from Isothermal Community College’s Truck Driver Training Program. The graduation ceremony was held Thursday, May 28, at 5 p.m. in the Foundation Performing Arts and Conference Center.

The ceremony kicked off with opening remarks from Mark Franklin, Director of Customized Training and Development, who welcomed graduates, families, instructors, and college leadership. President Margaret Annunziata and Dr. Scott Queen, vice president of Economic and Workforce Development, shared congratulations and highlighted the growing need for skilled truck drivers in our region.

Myron Greene, Truck Driving Coordinator and Lead Instructor, gave the commencement address and introduced the instructors — Joey Hamrick, Eddie Plank, Jeffery Tessnear, Kimberly Walker, and Derwin Walls — thanking them for their dedication and support in helping students succeed.

Certificates were awarded to Mervin Armstrong, Cobie Elliot, Osia Gaines, Christopher Goins, Dustin Hayes, Hugh Michael Lovingood, Jacob Poole, and Josse Vargas. Each graduate is now fully trained and ready to start their careers in the transportation and logistics industry.

Isothermal’s Truck Driver Training Program combines hands-on classroom learning with behind-the-wheel experience to prepare students for commercial driver’s license (CDL) testing and real-world trucking careers. The program supports workforce needs across western North Carolina and the Appalachian region.

Classes for the next session began on Monday, June 1. An evening class begins on Monday, July 20, and another daytime class starts on Monday, August 10.
