Small businesses are essential to a thriving regional economy. Whether creating a startup or expanding an existing business, we are here to help you achieve your goals here in Rutherford and Polk County.

A Complimentary Resource Center

The Small Business Center Network is funded through a grant from the state of North Carolina, so counseling services and training seminars are available at no cost.


We offer a wide array of programs and services:

  • One-on-One confidential business counseling to assist you with business planning, licenses and permits, and more
  • Seminars on starting and growing a small business
  • Stand-alone seminars for new businesses and start-ups. Check out our Seminar page
  • Targeted referrals to local and regional partners
  • Networking events
  • Ready access to the Small Business Center, the college and community resources

Local Partnerships

Ongoing opportunities let us partner with local organizations like the Rutherford Chamber of Commerce, Rutherford County Economic Development, Agricultural Economic Development of Polk County, Carolina Foothills Chamber of Commerce, SCORE, local government (Register of Deeds, County Manager, etc.), and many area banks. We also work with the NC Secretary of State, NC Dept. of Revenue, Small Business Administration, and many other state and federal programs.
