Emergency and Safety Plans

Safety Committees         

The College has established two committees: Campus Safety Committee and Occupational Safety Committee. The committees are made up of employees appointed by administration and employee volunteers. The majority of each committee is made up of non-managerial employees.  

Each coordinator will serve as chair of his/her respective committee. The co-chair will be selected by committee members. Task forces will be established as needed. Task forces may be comprised of employees not on the committee but shall include at least one committee member.

Campus Safety Committee

The Campus Safety Committee shall, within reasonable limits and in a reasonable manner as it relates to matters pertaining to campus safety and health, exercise the following responsibilities: 

  1. Review the safety and health program established by the College.
  2. Review incidents involving fatalities, injuries and illnesses, and complaints by the Campus Community regarding campus safety or health hazards.
  3. Review, upon the request of the committee or upon the request of the College or employee representatives of the committee, 1) the College’s incident reports as needed, other than personally identifiable medical information, and 2) other reports or documents relating to campus safety and health.
  4. Conduct inspections of the main campus and centers at least once every three (3) months, and in response to complaints by the Campus Community regarding campus safety or health hazards.
  5. Conduct interviews with the Campus Community regarding campus safety and health as needed.
  6. Conduct meetings, at least once every three (3) months, and maintain written minutes of the meetings.
  7. Establish procedures for exercising the rights of the committee.
  8. Attend training as needed for committee members.
  9. Make recommendations on behalf of the committee, and in making recommendations, permit any members of the committee to submit separate views to the Vice President of Administrative Services for improvements in the College’s safety and health program and for the correction of hazards to the Campus Community’s safety or health, with the understanding recommendations shall be advisory only and the College shall retain full authority to manage the facilities.

Occupational Safety Committee

The Occupational Safety Committee shall, within reasonable limits and in a reasonable manner as it relates to matters pertaining to occupational safety and health, exercise the following responsibilities: 

  1. Review the safety and health program established by the College.
  2. Review incidents involving work-related fatalities, injuries and illnesses, and complaints by employees regarding safety or health hazards.
  3. Review, upon the request of the committee or upon the request of the College or employee representatives of the committee, 1) the College’s work injury and illness records, other than personally identifiable medical information, and 2) other reports or documents relating to occupational safety and health.
  4. Conduct inspections of the worksite at least once every three (3) months and in response to complaints by employees or committee members regarding campus safety or health hazards.
  5. Conduct interviews with employees in conjunction with inspections of the worksite.
  6. Conduct meetings, at least once every three (3) months, and maintain written minutes of the meetings.
  7. Observe the measurement of employee exposure to toxic materials and harmful physical agents.
  8. Establish procedures for exercising the rights of the committee.
  9. Attend training as needed for committee members.
  10. Make recommendations on behalf of the committee, and in making recommendations, permit any members of the committee to submit separate views to the Vice President of Administrative Services for improvements in the College’s safety and health program and for the correction of hazards to employee safety or health, with the understanding recommendations shall be advisory only and the College shall retain full authority to manage the worksite.
