Employees Categories

Employment at Isothermal Community College is designated into four categories specified below.  This policy does not confer tenure or the promise of a contract for continuing employment and all employment is contingent on College needs, enrollment and/or availability of funds.

A.  Full-Time Employees

The category of full-time employees shall be for the following positions:

  1. Staff: An employee who works a standard work week of 37.5 hours per week in a position wherein there is a reasonable expectation that employment may be extended beyond twelve months.
  2. Curriculum Faculty: An employee who teaches a full-time load as defined in College policy wherein there is a reasonable expectation that employment may be extended beyond an academic year. (Policy 305-01-00BP)
  3. Curriculum Instructional Paraprofessionals:  An employee who provides direct instructional support, works on the academic calendar and works a standard work week of 37.5 hours in a position wherein there is a reasonable expectation that employment may be extended beyond an academic year.
  4. College and Career Readiness Instructors and Continuing Education Instructors: An employee who teaches fifty percent (50%) or more in a College and Career Readiness or Continuing Education program has a standard work week of 37.5 hours in a position wherein there is a reasonable expectation that employment may be extended beyond an academic year.

Full-time employees are eligible for College benefits.  

B.   Full-Time Temporary Employees

  1. Staff: An employee whose assignment is stipulated at the time of assignment to be up to or fewer than six months duration requiring a standard work week of 37.5 hours. 
  2. Curriculum Faculty: An employee who teaches a full-time load as defined in College policy for one academic semester or less. (Policy 305-01-00BP) 
  3. Curriculum Instructional Paraprofessionals: An employee who provides direct instructional support for one semester or less working a standard workweek of 37.5 hours.
  4. College and Career Readiness Instructors and Continuing Education Instructors: An employee who teaches fifty percent (50%) or more in a College and Career Readiness or Continuing Education program for up to or fewer than six months requiring a standard work week of 37.5 hours.

If circumstances arise that a temporary assignment needs to be extended past the period policy allows, a written request must be submitted to the President; approval can only be granted by the President.

Full-time temporary employees may be eligible for health coverage in accordance with College policy. (Policy 302-04-08BP)

C.  Part-Time Temporary Employees

  1. Staff:An employee whose assignment does not exceed 28 service hours per week.
  2. Curriculum Adjunct Faculty: An employee whose teaching load is in accordance with College policy. (Policy 305-01-01BP)
  3. Curriculum Instructional Paraprofessional: An employee who provides direct instructional support not exceeding 28 service hours a week.
  4. College and Career Readiness Instructor and Continuing Education Instructor: An employee who teaches 28 service hours or less a week in a College and Career Readiness or Continuing Education program.

Service hours are calculated in accordance with the College policy. (Policy 302-04-08BP) An employee that has multiple assignments with different classifications and/or departments total service hours cannot exceed 28 a week.  Under special circumstances hours may be adjusted, prior approval must be received by the Director of Human Resources and appropriate Vice President; such approval shall be reported by the Director of Human Resources to the President on at least a quarterly basis. Part-time temporary employees are not eligible for College benefits. 

Part time temporary employees may be eligible for health coverage in accordance with College policy. (Policy 302-04-08BP)

D.  Permanent Part-Time Employees

Permanent part-time employees are those that receive a contract and work at least 20 hours per week, but not more than 28 hours per week. Under special circumstances hours may be adjusted; prior approval must be received by the Director of Human Resources and appropriate Vice President; such approval shall be reported by the Director of Human Resources to the President on at least a quarterly basis. No new assignments may be made under this classification after May 12, 2009.

Permanent part-time employees are eligible to accrue annual and sick leave in accordance with the College policy. In addition, permanent part-time employees may be eligible for health coverage in accordance with College policy (Policy 302-04-08BP)
