Sixth graders from Rutherford and Polk counties will enjoy exciting exhibits across the Isothermal campus.

Every sixth grader from Rutherford and Polk counties -- nearly 1,000 of them -- spends the day on campus for the Isothermal Science & Technology Expo. The event features 36 interactive exhibits that cover virtually every broad aspect of science and technology. Half of the exhibits are presented by Isothermal faculty, staff and students along with personnel from community partners including Duke Energy, Facebook, and KidSenses Children's Museum. The remaining exhibits are designed and executed by high school students, selected from all of the area high schools. Participants also enjoy a performance at the college's performing arts center. This year's act is Mr. Molecule’s “Bing! Bang! Boom!” Science Show Approximately 350 volunteers work as presenters, guides and runners during the five-year-old event. The Expo has been recognized as one of the top events in the NC Science Festival. From volunteers to participants, the Expo allows all learners to get excited about science and technology.

Past displays and activities include: air-powered rockets, solar gadgets, biodiesel, golf ball Ferris wheel, bicycle generator, laser dyes, bouncy balls, free fall, basketball launcher, Rueben's Tube, sound waves and fire, paper airplanes, telescopes, explosions, electricity, magnetism, astronomy, physiology, chemistry, physics, biology, sustainability, green building
