Fred

Fred and Theresa McGinnis traveled from Akron, Ohio to graduate from our program.
They were hired as team drivers by P.A.M. Transport in Ohio. “Everything here went better than we expected - the best time and money we've ever invested in ourselves".

During graduation, Bill Hempling made these remarks. He was a former truck driver, whose license had long expired. Bill went through our school to brush up on his techniques before he was re-licensed and hired by Swift. “Out of gratitude for what the staff has done, I want to quickly tell you about a day in trucking. One sunny, June, Saturday afternoon in 1997, I approached the main intersection of a very small Ohio town. Due to space limitations I took the entire left hand lane to prepare for a right hand turn. After signaling properly and waiting for the light to change, a woman in a small sedan pulled up beside me. I only glanced at her at first. Of course her presence on my right side made it necessary to wait through another light, but I was in no hurry. All of a sudden this woman was addressing me and apologizing extensively for moving in my way.

I assured her it was no great inconvenience and told her not to be so upset. At the moment she began apologizing I thought I could not recall any adult behaving with such genuine display of kindness and consideration.”

I am sharing this story for one simple reason. For five weeks the staff of Isothermal Community College has made me feel exactly the way I felt when alongside that woman in Ohio. Your own displays of kindness, patience, consideration and respect will be remembered just as vividly and for just as long. I am happier for having been here.”

David Self commented on the cooperative learning strategies we use in the classroom. He works for Trans Am. “Group learning in the class is very pro-active. It allows me to focus on my personal challenges to the material. This method keeps me more active and avoids boredom. I have found this method highly effective and my scores reflect it.
