Another Learning Community is planned for this spring for the students currently enrolled in the Learning Community. There are also plans to continue the Learning Community started this spring for new students in the fall of 2002. The hope is to develop more interdivisional Learning Communities in the future.

New Business:

Kim Gold stated that while this taskforce will continue to support and focus on Cooperative Learning and Learning Communities it is also the goal of this taskforce to explore new learning strategies. The floor was opened for suggestions of topics that the taskforce might explore further. The following is a list of ideas that were suggested:

Several resources were also mentioned that might be beneficial to the taskforce. Below is a list of possible contacts:

It was also mentioned that it would be beneficial to the taskforce members and to other interested Isothermal employees to have some method of sharing information on new teaching techniques and learning tools. Fred Bayley suggested creating a list serve that could be used to email taskforce members articles and other information. It was discussed that this medium could also be used to exchange thoughts and reactions to the articles that were presented. Barbara Peterson also suggested that a list be developed of people who had some expertise in a particular topic and would be willing to share their knowledge in a class meeting. This list could be used as a resource for faculty to find speakers for classes to integrate different viewpoints into the course material.

The members of the taskforce were asked to begin collecting information and ideas regarding learning strategies. The taskforce will meet again in early February to share ideas. Also before the February meeting Kim will work on setting up the list serve to share articles. Kim will also begin developing a list of speakers. Donna will contact James Anderson and Craig Nelson to get their suggestions for topics the taskforce might pursue.

The meeting was adjourned at 3:00 p.m.
