Turkey is best known in its production of industrial minerals.  Chromite is the largest metal produced in the country, then gold, base metal and bauxite.The mining industry has suffered during the Asian crises, as most of its trading partners are situated in Eastern Asia. As a result exports have dropped sharply, in particular to Russia, a major trading partner.(Madison )

The geology of Turkey with its mountains and rivers are natural structures in helping to harness the hydroelectric energy.  Turkey is having an energy demand rising at a rate of 6.7 percent annually with the influx of the population.  With this growth, Turkey is looking to pass other countries in the near future with their power usage.  With growth in population and more energy consumption also comes more environmental concerns.
