The irregular topography of Turkey is the reason why the regions are so diverse. The Taurus Mountains are close to the coast which keeps most of the rain on the coastal side. Central Anatolia receives no significant rainfall. Eastern Anatolia mountain regions have elevations exceeding 2500m-3000m which have long cold winters. That snow may stay on the ground 120 days.(Geography of Turkey) |
