Isothermal student named to Coca-Cola Academic Team

Maureen SieblerSPINDALE (May 26, 2010) – Maureen Seibler, an Isothermal Community College graduate, has been named as a member of the Coca-Cola All-State Community College Academic Team.

Seibler graduated last week with high honors. The Phi Theta Kappa member earned an Associate Degree in Business Administration.

The married mother of five sons plans to continue her business education through the G.O.A.L. Program at Garner-Webb University or through Liberty University’s on-line program.

“When the email arrived announcing my selection as a national finalist for the 2010 Coca-Cola Scholarship, I was ecstatic,” said Seibler. “I will receive a $1000 scholarship check this summer to be used for my continuing education at a four-year university.

“Though I am genuinely honored to receive this scholarship, the real prize for me was going through this process of documenting my accomplishments and receiving the two letters of recommendation. It had a profound impact on me. I now see the value of my hard work and achievements and am inspired to attempt new challenges. I am sincerely grateful to (Isothermal instructors) Bret Watson and Melissa Johnson for believing in me and encouraging me through the process.

“ICC’s motto is ‘Improve Life through Learning.’ Beyond doubt, my life has been greatly improved through my educational experience at Isothermal Community College.”

The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation sponsors the Coca-Cola All-State Community College Academic Team. In addition, the Coca-Cola Foundation, along with the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation recognizes the New Century Scholar. These two programs together provide almost $450,000 in stipends to student winners. Fifty students will be named Gold Scholars, receiving $1,500, fifty students will be named Silver Scholars, receiving $1,250, and fifty students will be named Bronze Scholars, receiving $1,000. A state may have multiple Gold, Silver, or Bronze Scholars. All scholars will also receive special medallions and will be listed in an April issue of the USA TODAY newspaper. Finally, an additional 150 national finalists will be selected from multiple states, each receiving a $1,000 stipend.

The top scoring student in each of the fifty states will be named a New Century Scholar and will receive a $2,000 stipend. In addition, one student for a Phi Theta Kappa chapter in Alberta, Canada and one student for a Phi Theta Kappa Chapter outside of the United States and Canada will be awarded. New Century Scholars will be presented at the AACC Convention.
