SPINDALE (July 14, 2009) - Cynthia Jarvis, an Information Technology major, is the 2009 recipient of the George Chatham Business Sciences Scholarship at Isothermal Community College.

The scholarship was established to honor the memory of George Chatham, a former Business Sciences student and well-loved part-time employee of the division.

“George touched the lives of so many people: family, friends, students, and co-workers at Isothermal,” said Marisa Sudano, a Business Sciences instructor who worked with Chatham. “It is the hope of those who support this scholarship, which provides fully paid tuition to the recipient, that lives will continue to be touched as George touched ours.”

Jarvis moved to Rutherford County to raise her two children when she was given the opportunity to work virtually from her home for Bank America. After one year, her division was dissolved and she had to decide whether to move to continue to work for the bank or stay in Rutherford County. She chose to stay. Because of the difficult economy, though, Jarvis believes that getting an Information Technology degree will enhance her business and management experience and help her obtain employment.
