Admissions Exception Policy

Isothermal Community College, in order to maintain a safe and orderly educational environment, reserves the right to refuse admission to any applicant if it is necessary to protect the safety of the applicant or other individuals. When making safety determination, the college may refuse admission to an applicant when there is an articulable, imminent, and significant threat to the applicant or other individuals. Isothermal Community College also reserves the right to refuse admission to any applicant during any period of time that the student is suspended or expelled for non-academic reasons from any other educational entity.

In making decisions to refuse admission, the Dean of Students or/ Dean of Continuing Education will document the following:

  1. Detailed facts supporting the rationale for denying admission;
  2. The time period within which the refusal to admit shall be applicable and the supporting rationale for the designated time period; and
  3. The conditions upon which the applicant who is refused would be eligible to be admitted.

Students who are denied admission by the Dean of Students or Dean of Continuing Education have the right to appeal to the appropriate vice president. Appeals to the vice president must be submitted in writing within a two week time period. If the student determines that an appeal of the vice president’s decision is warranted, the student may further appeal to the president of the college. This appeal must be submitted within a two week time period. The decision of the college president is final in all cases involving the refusal of admission based on a safety threat.
