Media Collection
All media housed in the library are indexed in the online catalog. Equipment for using non-circulating media in-house is available for students, faculty and staff. Circulating Media Audiotapes, videotapes, CDs and DVDs are housed in an area adjacent to the Periodicals Reading Room, and may be checked out at the Circulation Desk. The library has a large number of audiocassette "books on tape" and a big collection of movie classics and nonfiction topics on videotapes, as well as a growing collection of CDs and DVDs. Non-Circulating Media A selection of videotapes and DVDs is available primarily to instructors for use in the classroom. Faculty may elect to place ordinarily non-circulating media on reserve for students; otherwise, students and the public may use non-circulating media in the library. Special Collections Historical Materials The Old Tryon Historical Collection is housed in the Old Tryon Room, located behind the Periodicals Reading Room. This collection includes books, journals, clippings, census and court records on microfilm, and other items pertaining to the history of western North Carolina and the area once known as Tryon County. All books in the Old Tryon Room, with the exception of items in the Rare Book Case, are indexed in the online catalog; catalog entries for library materials in this collection display the label "TRYON RM." Counseling and Career Materials Resources for career exploration, college transfer opportunities, improvement of interpersonal skills and related concerns are available in the Career Center, located off the lobby of the Student Services Building. A variety of audiovisuals may be used in the Center, and many books may be borrowed by anyone holding a valid library card from a CMC library. (See Page 2 for a list of CMC member libraries.) Catalog entries for library materials available in the Center are labeled "CAREER CENTER BLDG." Business Management Materials Information and assistance on the many aspects of starting, expanding, or managing a small business may be found in the Customized Training and Development Center, located in the lower level of the Foundation building. Videotapes on a variety of small business topics may be viewed in-house, and books and videos may be borrowed from the center by anyone holding a valid library card from any CMC library. Catalog entries for library materials available in the center are labeled "SMALL BUSINESS CTR."
