The library staff of Isothermal Community College hopes that you will find the library to be an important and valuable part of your college experience. As is evident from our mission statement, our primary purpose is to support the academic programs of the college; however, six public libraries within Rutherford County and two in Polk County provide a wide assortment of popular fiction and other recreational materials. The public and academic libraries in Rutherford County and Polk County, North Carolina, including Isothermal Community College Library; Rutherford County Public Library and its branches; the municipal libraries of Rutherford County; and the Polk County Public Library and its branch, form a cooperative organization known as the CMC Library Consortium. The Consortium maintains an online union catalog of holdings of all member libraries, which is accessible from any Internet-connected computer at http://www.cmclibraries.org/default.htm.
To the best of our ability,
we try to maintain a pleasant and inviting atmosphere in the library, and we
encourage you to ask for assistance whenever you have any problems using the
facility or are uncertain how to proceed in your search for information. In
consideration of all library patrons, reasonable quiet is expected. We
require that cell phone ringers
be turned off and conversations be held outside the library. The
consumption of food or
drink and the use of tobacco products are prohibited within the building,
including auditorium and restrooms.
LIBRARY MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the library is to provide the library resources, services and facilities necessary to support and enhance the college's instructional and training programs; to meet student needs for course-related and extra-curricular library materials; and to offer opportunities for personal and professional enrichment. In addition, the college library supplements library resources available to the residents of Rutherford and Polk counties. In pursuit of its mission, the library acquires, organizes and provides access to materials in a variety of formats; acquires and maintains requisite equipment; creates a physical environment conducive to user needs and media requirements; and provides instruction designed both to promote independent information retrieval by library users, and to encourage use of libraries as sources of lifelong learning.
