The Foothills Nursing Consortium is defined as a cooperative effort by Cleveland Community College, Isothermal Community College, and McDowell Technical Community College, to form one unit for the purpose of providing education for Associate Degree Nursing students through joint support and operation of a nursing education program. Foothills Nursing Consortium Characteristics This program consists of five or six sequential semesters including both classroom and clinical experiences. The graduate is eligible to take the NCLEX-RN, which is required for practice as a Registered Nurse. The Registered Nurse may be employed in a wide variety of health care settings including hospitals, long term care facilities, clinics, physicians' offices, industry and community health agencies. The N.C. Community College System and the N.C. Board of Nursing approve the Foothills Nursing Consortium, Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program. Characteristics of the ADN program:
Licensed Practical Nurses may enter the program during the second semester after completing admission criteria specified for advanced placement. The number of advanced placement students may vary from college to college and from year to year. A copy of advanced placement criteria may be obtained from Student Services. Isothermal Community College is the administrative unit and the central location of the three colleges. The commuting time to the administrative unit from the other two colleges is approximately one hour or forty miles. Nursing classes will be held on all three campuses at some period of time during the five semesters of the program. When possible, non-nursing courses will be scheduled on the campus of the student's county of residence. The majority of clinical experiences will be scheduled in or near the student's county of residence. However, a variety of clinical agency experiences adds greatly to the student's learning. Therefore, all students must commute at some point in time outside their county of residence. Thirteen or fourteen students from each college area will be admitted each Fall Semester to the day cohort for a total of forty new admits. Ten students from each college area will be admitted each Fall Semester to the evening cohort for a total of thirty new admits. Application must be made to the college of the student's county of residence. First preference of admission slots is given to qualified in-county applicants. Interested Individuals should request and review the applicant information packet for further Admission criteria and deadlines for Fall and Spring admissions, as well as Advanced Placement admissions. General Admission Process - First Year Level The following requirements must be met before you will be considered for admission to the ADN program. 1. Completed Application. 2. Official high school transcript or GED scores. 3. Official transcript(s) from all the colleges you have attended.
4. Three (3) references (not relatives or close friends). Examples: teachers, employers, guidance counselors. References that are not more than two (2) years old at the time of the general admission requirements deadline will be acceptable. (Must use forms provided). 5. Completed Placement Tests which will be administered at the college to which you apply. Applicants will be informed as to the time and place of tests.
6. Completed Developmental courses required as a result of Placement Tests with a grade of "C" or better. 7. Pre-requisite courses: You are required to have completed high school courses in Algebra, Chemistry and Biology (complete high school unit) or college with a minimum grade of "C". If you have not taken the classes, you must complete them in college with a minimum grade of "C" before consideration into the program. Pre-requisite courses are not accepted from the Adult High School Diploma Program unless the student is a graduate of this program. 8. If notified by the Admission Office, eligible applicants report for the PSB-Nursing School Aptitude Examination-RN (fee is required); and personal interview. All material must be sent to the Admission Office of your respective college. In addition to the general admission requirements: Advanced Placement - Second Year Level Candidates must also:
Final Selection for admission is based on a review of the candidate's academic records, test results, interview responses and favorable results of the physical and emotional examinations. Completion of requirements will not guarantee admission into the program. Written notification of acceptance will be mailed by the Admissions Office and ADN Director.
