North Carolina Education Lottery Scholarship (ELS)

 

The North Carolina Education Lottery Scholarship (ELS) was created by the 2005 General Assembly to provide financial assistance to needy North Carolina resident students attending eligible colleges and universities located within the state of North Carolina.


Applicant must:

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which is also used to qualify for Federal Pell Grants.

bullet

Be a North Carolina resident for tuition purposes

bulletEnroll for at least six credit hours per semester in a curriculum program
bulletMeet the Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements of the institution
bullet

Be admitted, enrolled and classified as an undergraduate student in a degree, certificate or diploma program at an eligible North Carolina institution (UNC campuses, Community College Campuses, Independent College Campuses and certain other private colleges)

 

Eligibility is determined based on the same criteria as the Federal Pell Grant with one exception; students not eligible for the Federal Pell Grant with an estimated family contribution of $5000 or less will be eligible for an Education Lottery Scholarship. Students who have earned baccalaureate (four-year) college degrees are ineligible.

 

It is estimated for 2007-08 that there will be approximately 30,000 grants available to assist students. The value per grant will vary according to information that is generated from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid application. Grants will range from $100 to $2,300 for the year.

North Carolina Community College Grant (NCCCG)

 

Grants are available to North Carolina residents who demonstrate financial need and are enrolled at North Carolina community colleges.


Students must:

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which is used to also qualify for Federal Pell Grants. Please contact the financial aid office for more specific information regarding procedures, etc.

Be a North Carolina resident

bullet

Be enrolled for at least 6 credit hours per semester in curriculum programs

bullet

Eligibility is based on the same criteria as the Federal Pell Grant; students not eligible for the Federal Pell Grant may be considered for the grant based on their estimated family contribution as determined on the Student Aid Report.

Students who have earned the baccalaureate (4 year) college degree are ineligible.

This program is offered by the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority through College Foundation Inc.


Award for the current year is $700

 

Students must:

Complete and file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

bullet

Show on the form that North Carolina is his/her state of legal residence

bullet

List at least one North Carolina college, university, technical or vocational school in the release section of the form.

bullet

The deadline for applying is March 15 of each year; however, funds are typically exhausted by the end of February.
