Welding Technology
provides students with a sound understanding of the science,
technology, and applications essential for successful employment in the
welding and metal industry.
Instruction includes consumable and non-consumable electrode welding and
cutting processes. Courses in math, blueprint reading, metallurgy,
welding inspection, and destructive and nondestructive testing provides
the student with industry standard skills developed through classroom
training and practical application.
Successful graduates of the Welding Technology curriculum may be
employed as entry-level technicians in welding and metalworking
industries. Career opportunities also exist in construction,
manufacturing, fabrication, sales, quality control, supervision, and
weld-related self-employment.
The Welding Technology curriculum
offers three levels of achievement:
Our program combines the text
of Modern Welding, by Althouse-Turnquist-Bowditch-Bowditch-Bowditch,
with the Module training of the
National Center for Construction Education
and Research. As an NCCER
Craft Instructor and Certified Welding Educator and Certified Welding Inspector with the
American
Welding Society, Department Head Nathan Fisher administers the training and
testing necessary for certification. Instructors

students.
Due to generous grants received from
The Golden Leaf Foundation and
The
Duke Foundation, the Welding Technology Department has expanded from 2680
square foot area, consisting of 15 stations that were capable of only a
single process each, to 9200 square feet with 30 stations, each capable of
three or more processes. We have installed an air filtration system from
Clean Air America and our new manifold system will soon provide both pure
argon & argon/CO2 gas for our Lincoln Electric welders, eliminating the need
for single bottles of these gasses. The purchase of gas mixers will allow us
to customize gasses to our preference.
