Short Way:
To easily update your definition files for your Command Anti-Virus:
1. Double click on the yellow "C" in the lower right hand corner of your screen.
2. On the right side of the opened dialog box, click on the UPDATE DEFFILES button.
3. At the Update Status Box, click NO to see the log of the update process.
4. Go to the help button, and choose About Command Software to verify the dates have been updated.
5. Click OK and then click the "X" to close out the program.
Congratulations! You have now updated your Deffiles.
If for some reason, you have trouble with the Live Update "Short Way" procedure as detailed above, contact Jeff McEntire at ext. 298 for a copy of the latest Deffile file and follow the "Long Way" steps below:
Long Way:
Always print this document before attempting definition file update, as this document may be revised from time to time.
Everyone is encouraged to follow this procedure and update your virus definition files each time the Information Technology department sends out a new file.
Step
1 (Copying Deffile.exe)
1.
Right
click on the
“
Deffile.exe
”
attachment in the e-mail you received
2.
Click
on
“
Save
As
”
3.
The
Save As dialogue box appears
4. At the “ Save In ” location click on the arrow to the right of the save in location box
NOTE: If you are in a Lab setting, or if you are installing this on your home computer, copy the definition file onto a diskette and copy it from your A: to the proper directory. Remember, our license agreement allows you to take the Command Software home for your personal computer. You can check out the CD in our office between 8AM and 4:30 PM Monday - Friday.

Browse
through the display of folders and double click on the
“Program
Files” folder
7.
Browse
through the display of folders and double click on the
“Command
Software”
folder
8.
Browse
through the display of folders and double click on the
“F-Prot95”
folder
9.
Now
click the
“Save”
button (If you should get a dialog box wanting to replace existing files, click
YES
each time you are prompted.
Step
2 (Locating and Executing Deffile.exe)
1.
Close
all applications running
2.
Right
click on the yellow
C
located in the bottom right hand corner of your screen
(NOTE: This step will keep your
machine from locking up and giving you a blue screen)
3.
Click
on the option to
“Close
F-Agent”
(notice that the yellow C disappears)
4.
Right
click the
“Start”
button
5.
Click
on
“Explore”
(explorer window will open)
6. On the LEFT side of the explorer window scroll and locate the “Program Files” folder
7. Click on the “Program Files” folder
8.
On
the
RIGHT
side of the explorer window double click on the
“Command
Software”
folder
9.
On
the
RIGHT
side of the explorer window double click on the
“F-Prot
95”
folder
10.
Browse
through available files and double click on
“Deffile.exe” (the ".exe" extension may or may
not be displayed)
11.
Each
time you are prompted to overwrite files always type
(Y)
for
yes
12.
When
completed, select
"OK",
close out the window by clicking the
“
X”
in the upper right hand corner of the screen
13. Close all open windows
14.
Now
click on the
“Start”
button
15.
Select
and click
“Shutdown”
16.
Select
“Restart”
and click
“OK”
17.
Your
computer will reboot
18.
When
your computer restarts you will be ready to confirm a successful installation
Step
3 (Confirming Installation)
1.
Double
click on the yellow
“C”
(the command anti-virus window will appear)
2.
Click
“Help”
3.
Click
“About
Command Anti-Virus for windows”
4.
You
should see that your files have been updated by verifying the dates of the files
The dates should be as follows:
SIGN.DEF (filedate from notification email)
MACRO.DEF (filedate from notification email)
Congratulations! You have now updated your Anti-Virus software!
By completing this procedure, your computer will always check your system for the newest viruses out there.
Each month we will attempt to send NEW UPDATES. All update procedures will be the same.
